ONE Freedom Hosts Veteran Civilian Dialogue

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Colorado‐based Nonprofit ONE Freedom Hosts “Veteran‐Civilian Dialogue” for the City of Colorado Springs: Community Dialogue on Veteran Reintegration with featured guest Dr. Edith Eger, PhD

Colorado Springs, CO —Thursday, September 23, 2010. ONE Freedom will host a “veteran-civilian dialogue” in Colorado Springs at the Historic City Auditorium on Tuesday October 5 from 7 to 9 pm to hear from featured guests and the general public on varying perspectives of veteran reintegration.

Featured guests include Dr. Edith Eger, PhD. Dr. Eger is an inspirational survivor of the holocaust, author and psychologist and brings a timely message on transitioning from war to life after war.  She’s helped thousands over the years and has been featured on national venues including the Oprah Winfrey Show. Other guests include Ramina Wilkerson, born and raised in Baghdad, Iraq. Ramina and her family worked on behalf of the United Nations and other organizations to help Iraqi civilians. They narrowly escaped persecution under the Saddam reign when they were granted political asylum in the mid 1990’s. Guests of the veteran‐civilian dialogue will also include recent combat veterans, families, and community members.

The idea of the dialogue is to encourage stories, conversation and perspectives from different viewpoints and generations on the issues surrounding veteran reintegration. “This is a national dialogue happening everywhere from military installations, to schools, businesses and churches,” said Elizabeth Hawkins, founder and executive director of ONE Freedom. “The gap between ‘battlefront to homefront’, ‘uniform to university’, or ‘combat to corporate’ impacts everyone involved and demands strategic thought, conversation and action.”

ONE Freedom’s mission is to transform the growing national stress epidemic by providing educational programs that empower system‐change and to research innovative methods of trauma recovery that improve self‐mastery of stress. ONE Freedom works nationally with returning veterans and families, education, healthcare, and other NGOs and has served over 6,000 veterans and families since beginning services in 2007.
