What Families Can Expect
ONE Freedom creates a bridge between the veterans' experiences of war and their way back home, which means finding a way to re-define oneself in relation to spouses, parents, siblings, friends, children, co-workers, bosses, and even perfect strangers. More importantly, the bridge back home is a metaphor for re-connecting with a sense of self that is often fragmented and sometimes shattered by traumatic experience.
A basic education in the brain and body's reactions to stress gives you an simple look at why challenging symptoms and behaviors may occur and provides the groundwork for rebuilding a sense of personal control, healing, and forgiveness. ONE Freedom skills focus on self-management in the areas of emotional and physical awareness, breath-work, imagery skills, and attention control.
We realize there are issues around the stigma of getting help in the military. The education we provide establishes a normalizing effect and helps makes sense of "Why is this happening to me? And what can I do about it?" Over time and with committed practice, ONE Freedom skill sets help to empower each person to defuse and take control of situations.
