American Pain Foundation
The American Pain Foundation (APF) began the Military/Veterans and Pain Initiative in 2004 to reach out to active military and veterans who are in pain. Along with providing resources, they work to advance pro-veteran/military legislation and policy on national and state levels. www.painfoundation.org
Armed Services YMCA of the USA
The ASYMCA provides support services to military service members and their families, particularly focused on junior-enlisted men and women – the individuals on the front lines defending our nation and their families. www.asymca.org
California National Guard – Financial Assistance Fund
The California National Guard Financial Assistance Fund (CNGFAF) was developed to help California National Guard Members who have financial difficulties because of their deployment in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom. www.calguard.ca.gov
CAUSE — Comfort for America's Uniformed Services
CAUSE provides personal care items and clothing to wounded soldiers arriving at Walter Reed Medical Center from Iraq and Afghanistan. They also operate programs that bring comfort and recreation to the rehabilitating service members. www.cause-usa.org
Helping Unite Gold Star Survivors
The Gold Star Family Support Center mission is to offer support and create programs to address the needs of all families who suffer the loss of a service member. www.goldstarfamilysupport.org
United Through Reading
United through Reading's Military Program unites military families faced with physical separation. Parents and children stay connected during long deployments through the medium of reading aloud on videotape. www.unitedthroughreading.org/united.htm
Fisher House Foundation
Fisher House Foundation donates “comfort homes” built on the grounds of major military and VA medical centers. In addition to providing housing for families while the military members recuperate, Fisher House Foundation also helps military families in need, and offers other scholarships and programs. www.fisherhouse.org
Coalition for Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans
The CIAV is a partnership of organizations working to provide services and support to OIF/OEF veterans and their families. It is comprised of some 45 agencies nationwide brought together by a common funder, the Iraq Afghanistan Deployment Impact Fund. coalitionforveterans.org
Gift from Within

Being a care-giver takes courage, but there are no medals for your efforts. As  you are there day-to-day helping your injured soldier heal, it may take a toll on you. "Compassion fatigue" is what we call the set of symptoms that care-givers can sometimes experience.
