BOULDER, Colo.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--ONE Freedom, Inc., a Colorado-based nonprofit organization, has been educating veterans and family members on stress and trauma recovery, teaching easy-to-learn techniques for managing unwanted stress. These workshops are free and offered throughout Colorado.

Hundreds of veterans and family members have already benefited from the workshops, which are taught by OIF/OEF veterans and stress experts. The trainings are scientifically based on the brain and body and emphasize the natural adjustments we all make under stress. "I wish I had learned these skills when I first got home," said Cliff Schroeder, a Marine combat veteran. "It makes perfect sense for each individual to be armed with an understanding of their own system and how they can take control."

The Strength after Service workshops discuss the effects of stress and trauma on the brain and body, which can include irritability, insomnia, invasive thoughts, chronic pain, stomach problems, depression, PTSD, or substance abuse. By raising awareness, providing a knowledge base, and teaching specific skills, the programs are designed to become part of the solution for veterans and families handling issues post-deployment.

"Service members are trained up for war," said Elizabeth Hawkins, executive director of ONE Freedom, "and the military works to prepare families for the challenges of deployment. ONE Freedom offers ways to train down, starting inside of our bodies and minds. Our classes give veterans and families tools they can use immediately to improve well-being after the stress of deployment."
