Description:

This summer 2010 Applebox Theatre Company of Denver, CO is partnering with Colorado nonprofit ONE Freedom.  Applebox is an emerging theatre group that strives to produce compelling performances while creating an artistic voice for pertinent social issues by partnering with area nonprofits.  The partnership is intended to raise awareness of the issues addressed by the featured nonprofit while providing avenues for fund-raising.   ONE Freedom provides education and training to returning veterans and communities on the impacts of post-traumatic stress and provides strategies for recovery.  

Applebox’s upcoming production is Summertree by Ron Cowen---a memoir of a young man who goes to war.   It was first produced in the sixties but speaks to the timelessness of war and its widespread impacts.  There will be 9 showings of the performance between July 21 and August 1.   

On July 28, Applebox will hold a benefit evening “Beneath The Summertree” to support raising funds for programming that will go directly to Colorado veterans and their families via ONE Freedom’s educational program: Strength after Service.  The benefit evening will engage members of the community, higher education, veterans and area nonprofits to connect and share resources.  Attendees will enjoy snapshots of the play Summertree, snapshots of ONE Freedom strategies, spoken word poetry from veteran writers, information from other area organizations serving veterans, live music, food/beverage, and a silent auction.
